Maxims For Peace

Here is a piece about peace. I read a fantastic book called Searching For and Maintaining Peace. I was motivated to write about peace and my reflections from it. You can find several maxims below, some of which are snippets from the book itself. These principles aren’t necessarily in order of importance. May it help us grow in peace despite the anxiety and troubles we find ourselves in.
- The search for peace is always motivated by love. Perfection is perfection of love, which entails death to self, love of God, and love of neighbour.
- Goodwill is a bloody dog—even if I am imperfect, and though I shall undoubtedly fall and at times lose my peace, my continued “Yes” to God and quickly picking myself back up will gain for me an immense certitude of peace. I will not get discouraged; I will rise up again.
- Following Saint Therese’s spirituality: I will not be discouraged! There is no point to falling into this. I can gain this by trust in God and God alone. When I am tempted to get discouraged I can throw myself back into the hands of God the Father and His providence.
- It is a grace to have abandonment to God’s providence. Therefore, I will pray for it and beg for it every day and every moment, especially when my trial has arrived.
- I shall be faithful to maintaining peace in the small things—for it is in them that I can gain God’s trust for the greater things He might give to me.
- Practice, practice, practice. Patience comes by practice. Peace is a fruit of the virtues exercised.
- I can approach my desires and wants with this attitude: caring, peaceful, patient, detached, and abandoned to God. The way in which I want things is as important as the thing itself.
- I can strive to do all tasks in a quiet and peaceful spirit. Knowing the weakness of my humanity, when I shall not live up to this excellently, I can quickly come back to the presence of God and begin again.
- God is found in peace. He acts powerfully in peace.
