My family was a great support when I struggled with mental health challenges. It wasn’t easy for them, and it demanded great patience through its trial. Love suffers with and for the beloved. By God’s grace, medical treatment, and a support group, I adapted my lifestyle and slowly recovered.

I painted this art piece in honour of my family’s support and especially my mother’s care. It’s titled Mom’s Hibiscus after her favourite flower. I bought her a hibiscus plant one summer for her birthday. She planted the flower in front of our family home, and it bloomed every August. It had bright and deep red blooms that were quite large. While she no longer lives there, I believe they still bloom to this day.

You’ll also notice a few buds in the background as a symbol of hope. The trials we might be facing can make life and its purpose feel lost. My family and I learned to take one day at a time and one moment at a time. The healing journey is a process. We can’t give it a timeline. We can instead put our faith in a loving God who takes care of us and our support system, especially when times are tough. For God promises spring and summertime blossoms after cold and dark winters.
