Self Knowledge

Life is all about growth. When we learn about ourselves, we are able to lead others more effectively. The beginning of leadership starts with self.
Self-knowledge is key. This includes learning our strengths, weaknesses, tendencies, quirks, and loves. We are all so dynamic and so different. It takes a lifetime to answer the question, Who am I? And leadership starts today as those answers grow.
There are three components that come to my mind for growing our self-knowledge. I call them the three R’s:
- Reflection—spend time journaling regularly. Begin a daily practice of writing and reviewing. It helps with understanding who we are.
- Reading—take time to learn through books. There are great books to help us understand our makeup. Some starters: temperament, love languages, strengths etc.
- Relationships—spend time with others! We truly come to know ourselves in the context of other people. Those closest to us bring out our best and our worst.
Know thyself!
