Introduction française
This showing was inspired by light. I got this idea when I returned from an academic exchange in Paris many years ago. I improved my French, ate baguettes and croissants, and sipped some wine by La Seine. I also took a drawing class! I had a great time learning, travelling, and exploring. Upon my arrival to Canada for the Christmas holidays, I regularly woke up at four in the morning because of jet lag. Rather than spend hours mindlessly awake in bed, I took out my artistic tools and drew. I was inspired to draw an idea called Le Soleil Qui Danse Dans La Nuit, or in English, the Sun That Dances In The Night. I drew suns dancing in the night with charcoal and oil pastels. It is no wonder this creative idea was inspired after my trip to Paris, the City of Lights. But with no intention of selling them, the project faded and my life continued.
Fast forward a decade later, after studies in finance, work in ministry, and a bursting energy for painting, the idea of Le Soleil Qui Danse Dans La Nuit was reinvigorated. I am proud to show my pieces during the darkest months and days of the year in December. The bright colours are indicative of hope; the paintings include different figurative suns that are dancing in the dark. My intention, as an artist, is to bring light where there is darkness, joy where there is mourning, and hope where there is despair. Whatever life has brought us, know there is a glorious sun dancing in the night, though we may not see it. The sun is a reminder that good things are present all the time. Look around. Where is the sun dancing in your darkest parts of your life?
