We Can Choose

There are lots of problems in our everyday lives. We don’t have to go too far to find them. I’ve noticed that there are three “u’s” that meet us daily: unexpected issues, unfortunate circumstances, and underwhelming results.
As leaders, let’s remember that we’re in the driver’s seat. Yes, there are problems and issues that come at us every day. But, as Victor Frankl wrote: between stimulus and response, man has the power to choose.
We can choose the three “you’s” everyday: you can control your reactions, you can choose the way you think, and you can choose to learn from these problems.
Being proactive puts us in the driver’s seat. It powerfully responds to the situation by asking the question, “What ought I do?” That enables a transformation from powerlessness to proactivity.
