Petrie Island Fall Rocks

I wanted to show the beauty of transition through this fall scene. Fall is my favourite season. I love the brisk air, jacket weather, the start of hockey, and of course, the vibrant colours. I am fortunate to see the seasonal changes, especially because I live in Canada. In our lives, we are constantly changing. Personally, I transitioned from work in ministry and finance to start my artistic practice. Making and creating art is life-giving for me. Isn’t art a wonderful gift? It has therapeutic and healing effects for both the giver and the receiver.
I used a colourful composition, unique rocks, and an in-person experience to create this painting. My mother-in-law and I recently painted at Petrie Island in Ottawa. We found a nice spot to paint by the beach. We were there for the whole afternoon. The most challenging aspect of this painting was trying to capture the movement of the clouds and water. The painting captures a moment in time, but painting nature’s composition takes more than just a moment.
